Famiglie Storiche announces the entry of Bertani into the Association

Famiglie Storiche is an association founded in 2009 through the collaboration of ten historic wineries in Valpolicella. Nowadays, its membership has grown to thirteen, all producing for generations. The member producers are Allegrini, Begali, Brigaldara, Guerrieri Rizzardi, Masi, Musella, Speri, Tedeschi, Tenuta Sant’Antonio, Tommasi, Torre D’Orti, Venturini, and Zenato.

Today, two significant announcements were made. The first was the entry of the Bertani winery, a renowned wine company owned by the Angelini family, which is part of Angelini Wines & Estates. The second was the Venturini winery decided to exit.

At the same time, we express great satisfaction in welcoming Bertani among the members of Famiglie Storiche, a benchmark brand for Valpolicella and Amarone, which will bring additional value to our shared commitment. Our Association consists of companies tat, through their history and daily work, safeguard and promote the identity of this extraordinary territory, sharing the goal of enhancing Amarone in Italy and worldwide.”

The Famiglie Storiche association is deeply committed to the attention and preservation of three major production areas: the Valpolicella Classica, Valpantena, and Valpolicella Orientale, ensuring their integrity and sustainability for future generations.

With this new addition, Famiglie Storiche elevates its mission by actively promoting collaboration and dialogue among the leading entities in Valpolicella, championing quality and celebrating the region’s iconic wine.

Bertani Since 1857

With its 200 hectares, Bertani is a well-established presence in the viticulture of Valpolicella Classica. It was founded in 1857 by brothers Giovan Battista and Gaetano in Quinto di Valpantena, north of Verona. In the mid-20th century, the winery acquired Tenuta Novare in Valpolicella Classica: here begins the story of Amarone, the iconic symbol of the brand and the territory it originates from, with its first vintage dating back to 1958. In 2013, Bertani was acquired by Angelini Wines & Estates and today operates from two historic locations: Grezzana, the current headquarters and Tenuta Novare in Arbizzano di Negrar, located in the Classica area.

Bertani is an icon in the international wine world thanks to its contemporary philosophy, which combines respect for historical culture and territory with the use of the most modern technological and enological knowledge. The enchanting Tenuta Novare in Arbizzano di Negrar serves as the base in the Valpolicella Classica, while Grezzana, in Valpantena, is Bertani’s operational headquarters.

CEO of Angelini Wines & Estates, Alberto Lusini, commented on joining the prestigious association: “We thank the 12 members who unanimously welcomed us and consider the association’s activities highly strategic at a time when Amarone needs to consolidate its prestige, to which we are happy to contribute.”
